Youngsters from Chailey Heritage were among hundreds of children across Sussex who joined in the fun on World Book Day.

Staff at the school in North Chailey, which cares for young people with complex disabilities, helped the pupils dress up as characters including Elmer the Elephant and Harry Potter, right.

The annual celebration of books and reading was a little different this year as many children were at home. Schools marked World Book Day, which was last Thursday, with activities for the children of key workers who were attending lessons.

But those at home took part by dressing up as their favourite storybook figures and linking up with their classmates via Zoom.

Parker Brownjohn isn’t at school yet as he is only three, but he had a ball dressing up as the Gruffalo. Mum Danielle said the tot is the character’s “biggest fan in the world”.
