A TRAIN had to be evacuated this afternoon after smoke was reported to be coming out of the front carriage.
Passengers were evacuated from the train at East Worthing Station just before 5pm and fire crews attended the scene.
Services are currently unable to run from Worthing to Brighton until the faulty train can be moved and delays are expected in the area until 8pm, Southern Rail said.
Passengers are advised to avoid travelling in the area at this time or to plan an alternative route.
👷♀️👷♂️ Engineers are onsite to investigate the specifics of the fault.

From here, we will then have a better understanding of how we can move the train from East Worthing.
We will provide updates when possible.
Rail replacement buses are running between Worthing and Brighton in both directions, calling at Hove, Aldrington, Portslade, Fishersgate, Southwick, Shoreham, Lancing and East Worthing in both directions.
Tickets will be accepted on Stagecoach Bus 700 services between Brighton and Littlehampton and Brighton and Hove Bus services on any route between Brighton and Shoreham.
A Southern Rail spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that response teams are currently onsite to investigate reports of smoke.
"Whilst they carry out investigations, services may be delayed or cancelled but all the latest information on that can be found online here."
