A young woman suffered "potentially life-changing" injuries when her car left the road and smashed into a tree yesterday.

Emergency teams were called to the scene off the A24, just north of the Buck Barn crossroads, shortly before 9am.

Ambulance crews attended and took the driver of the blue Dacia Sandero involved in the serious collision to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. In an update today, police say she suffered "serious, potentially life-changing injuries" in the crash.

The road was closed for more than two hours yesterday morning as officers carried out recovery work and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: "A 25-year-old woman suffered serious, potentially life-changing injuries when the car she was driving left the road and collided with a tree on the A24 on Thursday morning (March 11).

"Emergency services were called to the scene just north of the Buck Barn crossroads at 8.56am where the blue Dacia Sandero had left the southbound carriageway. The driver, from Horsham, was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

"The road was closed for rescue and recovery work to take place and was reopened about 11.20am.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have seen the southbound Dacia beforehand is asked to report online or call 101 quoting serial 314 of 11/03."
