Part of the A27 is closed after a car flipped on to its roof during a police chase.

Police say the car was stolen and the driver has been arrested following the crash near Chichester.

Sussex Roads Police officer PC Pete May is on the scene and provided an update on the incident via social media.

He said: "A stolen car pursued along the A27 into Chichester where the driver crashed and overturned.

"He's been arrested and recovery is en-route. (There are) delays on the A27 westbound on the approach to Portfield roundabout and into Chichester."

The AA is warning of queueing traffic in the surrounding area as a result of the collision.

A spokesman said: "The road is closed and there is queueing traffic due to a rolled over car and an oil spillage on the A27 Chichester Bypass westbound from the A285 Portfield Way to the A259 (Bognor Bridge Roundabout).

"The road was closed at about 9am, on the roundabout."

Sussex Police have been contacted for comment.

Update

At 10.49am, a Highways England spokesman confirmed the road had been reopened.

He said: "The A27 westbound between the A285 and the B2144 at Chichester is now fully open.

"Lane restrictions have been removed. There are currently no significant delays or congestion in the area."
