DOES anyone recall the Argus shop in North Street, Brighton?
This great Argus archive picture shows it packed with people.
It was taken around 1950. In those days – and up to the Eighties – the only efficient way to advertise anything was via a newspaper.

The newspaper industry was a lucrative business and the print unions were starting to flex their muscles in terms of wages and a “closed shop” in the production areas.
We have another newspaper-related photo today. It shows a sales booth in Brighton in about 1952. Newspaper booths were a regular sight at that time as nearly everyone read newspapers or comics.
Our final picture today is thought to be “Big” Bill Broonzy, a blues guitarist. He visited Hove Town Hall on a tour from the US in 1952.
