UBER Eats have reportedly sent a message to all Brighton and Hove delivery drivers warning them not to break road rules.

Delivery drivers have said they received the message from the takeaway company following reports of rule-breaking on a city-centre street.

Yesterday, The Argus reported on residents’ claims that hundreds of moped riders a week are using an illegal shortcut in Hampton Place while delivering food.

The message from Uber Eats to its drivers said: “We wanted to let you know that we have received reports that some couriers using motor vehicles are illegally using cycle-only routes near Hampton Place, Brighton.

“Please remember to correctly follow the rules of the road. Failure to do so may affect your access to the app.”

Hampton Place, in the city centre, is split in two and only cyclists are allowed to use the route between the streets.

Video captured this month appeared to show many riders flouting the rule.

When contacted by The Argus, the company said the safety of everybody who uses the app is “a top priority”.

Deliveroo, who were also contacted, said it takes rider conduct “extremely seriously” and was communicating the issue to all of its drivers.

Ward councillor Tom Druitt said residents in the area were “at their wit’s end”, with some moving out of the area due to the issue.
