EMERGENCY teams were called to deal with a fire at a thatched cottage yesterday evening.

Six crews were sent to the scene and quickly set about battling the blaze.

They established the fire had started in the chimney of the house and were able to bring it under control.

Crews then remained at the site to carry out thermal imaging checks for any further hotspots.

In a statement issued shortly before 9pm yesterday evening, a West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "Earlier this evening, our crews from Chichester, Bognor, Hampshire, Emsworth, Havant and our technical rescue unit attended a chimney fire at a property in Main Road in Nutbourne.

The fire was extinguished and thermal imaging checks were carried out."
