A LEISURE centre is set to reopen its doors after months of lockdown, it has been revealed.

Staff at the King Alfred Leisure Centre in Hove are making preparations to get facilities back up and running.

In a message to members, Freedom Leisure, the company which operates the site in Kingsway, said most activities like the gym, swimming pool and racket sports will return.

It is part of the government’s “roadmap” out of the coronavirus lockdown, where millions of people are getting vaccine jabs.

The King Alfred is not set to reopen at the next phase this month, when the next phase of rules being relaxed will take place.

According to the roadmap, we will be able to meet in a group of six or two households outdoors from March 29.

It will also mean we can one again rejoin organised team sports outside, and the “stay at home” rule will be eased.

The measures will coincide with the Easter holidays with children off from school, the government said.

The next phase will not be before April 12, where gyms and leisure centres will be able to reopen, along with outdoor attractions like zoos and hospitality will also be allowed outdoors.

Bosses at Freedom Leisure say the King Alfred centre will reopen on April 12, with measures in place which were in place after the centre was previously allowed to reopen last summer.

The company wrote: “We are delighted to inform you that King Alfred will reopen on Monday, April 12.

“Things will be exactly the same as they were when we closed before Christmas and over the next few weeks we will be working hard to ensure we reopen safely and with the necessary social distancing and hygiene measures in place including the compulsory wearing of face coverings (other than when taking part in an activity, or if you are exempt due to medical reasons) to provide you, our valued customers, with the reassurance we know you need to come back.

“We will be providing more information on this on social media and on our website over the coming weeks.”
