THIS brilliant Argus archive picture shows a street party in full swing, we think in about 1953.
And though we know it was taken in Brighton, we don’t know exactly where – it could be any one of the council estates.
The colourisation brings it dramatically to life.

A more unusual shot from around the same time shows camels being led along Western Road, Hove, with the corner of Lansdowne Place south side.
Circuses were a regular event at that time. The animals travelled by train and walked to their destination.
Our final picture, also from around 1953, shows The Regent cinema in Brighton. The Syd Dean Band performed at the Regent in the Forties although didn’t become resident band until the Fifties. This picture looks historically incorrect but we understand the old cars were outside to promote what looks like the film Genevieve.
