JUMBLE sales have largely died out now, replaced by charity shops and the internet, but lots of Argus readers will remember happy days hunting for bargains at events like this one.
The Argus archive picture was taken in about 1953.
Something else that has died out is the game of “bat and trap” as shown here at The Level in Brighton in about 1955.
This was popular game played in Sussex especially on bank holidays.

The Level was once a cricket ground and the pub opposite, the Bat and Ball, is a reminder of this.
Our last picture today was taken in about 1950 and shows some sort of procession moving along East Street, Brighton.
We don’t know if it was a funeral or some kind of pensioners’ protest.
