A BRIGHTON and Hove Albion player faces losing his licence after allegedly being caught speeding five times.

Midfielder Yves Bissouma is accused of speeding on the A259 Marine Parade on five separate occasions last year.

The £25,000-a-week Mali international, who lives at the Marina, is also alleged to have failed to give information identifying the driver on each alleged offence.

The alleged incidents happened in September, October and November, last year.

The 24-year-old’s first alleged offence was reported on September 23, with further incidents recorded on October 21, October 30, and two on November 2.

In one count, he is accused of exceeding 30mph in an Audi – the other four are alleged to have happened in a Mercedes.

The case was due to be heard at Crawley Magistrates’ Court yesterday morning.

However, this hearing has now been adjourned to a later date.

Each of the five counts could see the footballer hit with three points on his licence and a fine. Drivers who rack up 12 or more points on their licence face losing it for six months.

Bissouma was born in Ivory Coast, but raised in Mali and joined the Seagulls in a £15 million deal from the French club Lille back in 2018.

Since joining, he has racked up 86 appearances for the club – scoring four times.

He has reportedly been linked with Liverpool and Manchester United after scoring a 30-yard screamer in an FA Cup win over Blackpool.

In late 2020, it was also rumoured that Real Madrid had joined the race to sign the Brighton midfielder. Spanish news outlet Defensa Central claimed Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane saw the midfielder as a “cheaper alternative” to Paul Pogba and Eduardo Camavinga. The report added that Bissouma could cost Los Blancos as much as £36.3million (€40m).
