A MOTORCYCLIST has died in hospital after a serious crash.

The collision happened on the A26 Eridge Road at the junction with Groombridge Lane in Eridge Green, near Crowborough.

Police were called to the scene at 10.10pm last night after reports of a crash involving a a blue Ford KA and a black Sinnis Apachi motorcycle.

The 24-year-old motorcyclist from Tonbridge was taken to Kings College Hospital in London, where he later died. Police say his next of kin have been informed.

A 24-year-old woman from Crowborough has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and remains in custody while the investigation is ongoing.

Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or has any dashcam footage which could help enquiries.

It comes after a warning from the force for drivers to take extra care on the roads following a spate of recent collisions, with many involving motorbikes.

Sergeant Huw Watts from the Surrey and Sussex Roads Policing Unit urged drivers to "pay 100 per cent attention" when they return to the roads as lockdown restrictions are eased in the coming weeks and months.

He said: "Of course people will want to be out and about again, but this must not be until restrictions allow it and once they do, we need people to be careful, considerate and drive within the law."
