Lidl has confirmed it will open its huge new Hove store within weeks.

The supermarket chain will welcome customers to the new site at the Goldstone Retail Park on April 8.

Several large banners have been unfurled at the front of the building revealing the date.

A Lidl spokesman said: "Once opened, the store will create about 40 full and part-time jobs for the local area and we look forward to delivering our fresh, quality and affordable produce to the local community."

The supermarket replaces the Toys R Us store which previously occupied the building.

The shop shut in April 2018 after the toy chain collapsed, and the building has been empty ever since.

German retailer Lidl announced plans to occupy the site in March last year, and was granted planning permission to make a series of changes six months later.

According to plans, the supermarket will provide four electric vehicle charging points and "improve the food offer" for people living in the area.

New sheltered areas for trolley and bike storage have also been installed at the front of the store.
