THE sister of a teen mum who left her baby alone to die while celebrating her 18th birthday has spoken out.
She distanced herself and her family from the "troubled" Verphy Kudi, who has now been convicted of manslaughter.
The unnamed older sister, who blurred her own face in the footage, claimed Kudi had “the support system she needed”.
Kudi walked out on her daughter on the day she turned 18, partying for six days while baby Asiah starved to death.
The 20-month-old was dead when she returned to the flat in Brighton, where she had been housed by social services.
Speaking in the video message from October, her sister spoke about reading about the case in the newspapers.
She said: “If she’s done that, she will do her time and get punishment for that.
“Nobody in my family knew about that headline, remember my sister is 18 so if any investigation was going on behind the scenes, no one in our family has to be informed.
“Because she’s of age, the government, whatever happens between her and them, no one in my family was informed, no one knew anything that was going on behind the scenes.
“No one knew there was an investigation going on.
“We were told she passed away a different way, we were told her cause of death was something different.
“I pray my god reveals all, I pray it all comes out in court and my niece gets the justice she deserves.
“Another thing I would like to say is that my sister had the support system she needed. My whole family was there for her, all of us was there for her.

“My mum especially did everything she could to help that child, to help my sister, from even before she had my niece."
Little Asiah had contracted influenza. A post mortem examination concluded she died from neglect.
Kudi, now aged 19, entered a plea of guilty to manslaughter.
