THESE crowds are arriving at Brighton Station in 1958.
How commuting has changed – obviously the train and the fashions are different but note the absence of mobile phones and coffees to go.
Colourisation has brought this wonderful Argus archive image to life – and the chap on the right in the jacket and tie would not look out of place at the station today.

Brighton’s open market has a familiarity about it, even though this picture is from 1952. Many readers recalled what characters the stall holders were.
Finally today we have a shot of the demolition of the Albermarle Hotel in 1958.
It was on Brighton seafront in a spot now occupied by a block of flats overlooking the Aquarium. It is next door to what became the Hungry Years.
