POLICE have seized a car at a 'large car meet' in Beachy Head.

Officers said they had "no problem" with people admiring each other's cars as people took part in a car meet this afternoon.

However, the force said drivers who "drive in a manner that causes alarm or annoyance" risk having their car seized.

As a result, one car has been impounded by officers at the scene.

Writing on Twitter, Sussex Roads Police said: "Large car meet at Beachy Head this afternoon.

"If you want to admire each other's cars, no problem.

"If you want to drive in a manner that causes alarm or annoyance to other road users, then you run the risk of your vehicle being seized, like this one."

Under current rules, outdoor gatherings of up to six people, or any number of people from two households, are allowed to take place.

The government's well-worn Stay at Home mantra has also been traded in for a new "Stay Local" message.

Although there no exact definition of what local is, it has been reported that long-distance travel should not be encouraged.

Last year, police were called to break up a large group of antisocial drivers in a car meet in Newhaven.

Footage taken in Fort Road showed some of the vehicles turning around and leaving after police had blocked the road.

The ‘car cruise’ was also seen heading towards Brighton Marina on the A259 Marine Parade, and a dispersal order was later issued by police at the Marina in the interest of public safety.
