Police seized an ambulance as the driver did not have the appropriate licence to drive the vehicle.
The driver was given "relevant words of advice" following the incident in Crawley on Sunday.
The vehicle was not on duty, but had been decommissioned then bought by a collector.
Crawley Police posted an image of the ambulance on social media shortly after 6pm, saying: "Yes, we just seized this ambulance.
"However, this has been decommissioned and sold on to a collector.
"Unfortunately, he doesn’t have the appropriate licence to drive the vehicle. He also blew 31ug at the roadside and was given relevant words of advice. Vehicle seized."
The drink-drive limit in England and Wales is 35 ug (microgrammes) of ethanol in 100ml of breath.
