A PROLIFIC supermarket thief who stole more than 100 chocolate Easter eggs has been jailed.
Christopher Michael Way pilfered the chocolate treats from Tesco in Broadwater.
The 39-year-old “persistent” thief targeted stores in the area, routinely stealing chocolate bars.
He also raided a Shelter charity shop and stole an iPad and equipment inside in Worthing.
At Worthing Magistrates’ Court he admitted a string of offences included theft, obstructing a PC and assaulting a police sergeant.
Way was jailed for nine months because of his crimes.
It was revealed that he stole 111 chocolate Easter eggs from Tesco in Broadwater and obstructed a police officer in January this year.
Days later he assaulted the sergeant in South Farm Road outside Tesco after stealing Cadbury Wispas.
Then in February this year he stole chocolates worth £92 from the Co-op in Southwick and raided the shop again on February 27 and 28 to steal more chocolates.
In December last year he twice stole cosmetics from McColls.
His raid on the Shelter charity shop took place between February 29 and March 3 last year.
The court heard how the thefts were to “feed a drugs habit”.
The offences this year were committed while Way, of no fixed address, was meant to be undertaking rehabilitation to get himself clean.
He was ordered to pay £600 compensation to retailers for his crimes, and is now behind bars.
