All lines between Chichester and Havant are currently shut after a person was hit by a train.

The incident was first reported by Southern Rail at about 12.20pm.

All lines between the two stations remain blocked both ways, with disruption expected to continue until 3pm.

A Southern Rail spokesman said: "It is with great sadness that we report a person has been hit by a train between Chichester and Havant.

"As all lines are currently closed, trains may be cancelled or diverted until approximately 3pm.

"You'll need to leave plenty of extra time for your journey this afternoon.

"Your ticket will be accepted, at no extra cost, on South Western Railway services between Southampton, Portsmouth, Havant and London Waterloo, and Stagecoach 700 buses between Portsmouth, Havant, Chichester, Bognor Regis and Littlehampton.

"Rail replacement buses will be running between Chichester and Havant, they will stop at Chichester, Fishbourne, Bosham, Nutbourne, Southbourne, Emsworth, Warblington and Havant.

"If you're taking a rail replacement, this will add around 45 minutes to your journey."
