EASTBOURNE and Hastings have been named among the top seaside towns to move to in the UK.

The Sussex towns finished 12th and 13th respectively in a list of the best coastal locations to find a property.

The list was calculated by bathroom and shower specialists Showerstoyou.co.uk based on factors such as each area's air quality, average property price, the average nightly price of an AirBnb, the number of Blue Flag beaches and how many people visit each year.

The maximum temperature, hours of sunshine and days of rainfall were also taken into account, with points out of 100 awarded for each section, giving an overall score.

Margate in Kent took the top spot with 537, followed by Weymouth with 528 and Torquay with 524.

Eastbourne and Hastings finished with a very respectable 403 and 397 respectively, earning them their place in the top 15.

Found within 20 miles of each other, both towns racked up high scores on the low number of days of rainfall and high number of sunshine hours they offered, compared to other parts of Britain.

However, they were both let down by low scores for the average property prices in each town, and the two resorts also scored zeros for their number of Blue Flag beaches.

The Blue Flag is a certification by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) that a beach meets its standards, including criteria on quality, safety, environmental education and information.

Brighton was placed as number 29 on the list, with a score of 285.
