POLICE have imposed an order on a town centre after a shopping centre stabbing.

Officers were called to The Beacon, Eastbourne, shortly after 8.30pm last night after the victim was stabbed in the stomach.

He has been taken to hospital for treatment.

Officers searched the area for suspects, who are believed to be known to the victim.

Shortly after, police received a second report of an attack in Terminus Road. A man suffered a “superficial wound” to his arm.

Superintendent Justin Burtenshaw said: “We have stepped up patrols in the area this evening following the assaults in the town centre.

“We are really keen to hear from anyone who has information on either matter. No matter how small that piece of information might be, please get in contact with us.

“A Section 60 order of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 has been authorised which will allow officers to conduct stop and searches in Eastbourne town centre up until 2.55am today.”

A Section 60 order enhances the stop and search powers of officers, allowing them to search anyone without needing to suspect that they might be carrying weapons.

If you witnessed either assault or have information which could assist the police investigation please report online or call 101 quoting serial 1228 of 10/04.
