OUR Argus archive pictures today are something of a mystery so maybe readers can shed some light on them.
The delightful shot of little schoolchildren with their Christmas post was probably taken in the Fifties.
It says “Cottesmore” on the rocket-shaped post box – could it be the school in Upper Drive, Hove?
A mystery picture of a snowy street somewhere in Brighton
The snowy street scene is, we think, somewhere in Brighton and again, the picture was probably taken in the Fifties. It would be nice to identify the exact location.

Toll House on the A27, 1951
We do know more about our final picture today – it was taken in about 1951 and shows the toll house on the A27 at Ashcombe near Lewes. The building dates from the 1700s when this stretch of the road was built and became a toll road. Businessmen clubbed together to build the road up the valley from Brighton to Lewes.
Previously, fish would have been transported from Brighton over the Downs from Woodingdean on the “Juggs” Road, which still exists today and is now a bridleway.
