AFTER missing out on winning an Oscar a director is still proud of the achievement for being nominated.

Brighton-born director Will Becher, 41, was part of the team behind the film Shaun the Sheep Farmageddon which was nominated for an Oscar in the animated feature film category.

The ceremony was split between London and Los Angeles and was treated as a TV production to allow for more people to attend. Attendees did have to wear mask and keep socially distanced. The Academy award went to Pixar’s film Soul, but Will is still happy for the film to gain recognition.

He said: “I think I was pretty happy just to be there, we also feel proud to represent independent film makers. I anticipated that Soul would win, and I know the film’s director, and I am pleased that Soul won and for the director.”

Will, however, did not leave the event empty handed. The director was named in the ‘top ten hottest hunks’ much to his surprise.

He said: “I was sure someone had made a mistake, but what an honour, my family were more impressed with that then the actual nomination. I am very amused about it; I think it is hilarious.”

After having one day off Will is back at work and is currently working on a 30-minute Shaun the Sheep Christmas special. The Aardman film director is also working on his won idea which he hopes will turn into a feature film one day.

When asked about the secret project Will said: “Watch this space.”

Will attended Varndean Sixth Form College and when he was 16 and impressed when he created a three-minute short film called The Bug, this film was chosen to be screened at London’s National Film Theatre as part of the Co-operative Young Film-makers’ Festival in 1996.

After graduating with a degree from Edinburgh University, Will joined Aardman studio after completing a work placement on the film Chicken Run. Will then worked on Curse of the Were Rabbit and became one of Aardman's youngest feature film animators in doing so and is now a director at the company.
