FORMER Albion goalkeeper, Michel Kuipers, is offering free entry to his gym as part of a relaunch of the business.

The retired footballer, who played for Albion and Crawley, opened PHX gym in December, but was forced to close after only two weeks due to Covid-19. The gym reopened on April 12, but for this bank holiday weekend, May 1 and 2, people can visit the gym for free.

Michel said: “We have been open, and the numbers are growing fast so it is good see that everybody is coming back and enjoying themselves in the gym. Plus, it also benefits people to work on their mental and physical health, it is good to see smiles on people’s faces.

"It is a bank holiday weekend and we just wanted to do a big relaunch and give people in Brighton the chance to visit the gym and enjoy the fantastic facilities that we can offer. It will give everybody a free opportunity to do some physical exercise and make 2021 a healthy and happy year.”

The decision has been made as part of a relaunch for the gym, at the former police station in Crowhurst Road, Hollingbury. The gym is unique and one of a kind as it is the first ever to be built with Covid measures in mind, Michel said. The design and layout of the gym has made sure that it is Covid safe, something Michel is very proud of.

The 46-year-old-said: “The gym designer spent three days in the building, measuring and designing a gym environment where no one is facing someone else when they are using an exercise machine. All the machines are spread out and none are facing each other.

"So, it is good that we are the very first gym in the UK that has been built with Covid rules and distances in mind. A lot of others have had to remove machines to make space, whereas we were able to get every machine in our catalogue into the gym."

There were will be a temperature check as well as supplied hand sanitiser. There is also antibacterial spray dotted around the gym so users can spray down machines and make sure they are clean.

The gym has treadmills, bikes, cross-trainers, stairmasters, ecoline cardio machines, 75 pin and plate loaded resistance machines and two dumbbell areas. As well as all the equipment, there will be two ten metre astro turfs areasfor functional training and a mirrored studio room which can be hired out.

Furthermore, the gym also houses a unisex hair saloon, a sunbed room and treatment area as well as a lounge which includes protein shakes, pre work out drinks and a juice bar.
