Brighton Kill the Bill protest gathers at The Level

By Aidan Barlow

Last updated:

HUNDREDS of protesters have gathered at The Level in Brighton to raise concerns about the right to hold demonstrations.
  • Speakers from organisations including Brighton and Hove Trades Council, Brighton and Hove Stand Up to Racism, trade unions, community groups, and campaign groups are addressing the crowd.
  • About 300 to 500 people are in attendance and are listening to the speeches.
  • The event coincides with May 1, which is International Workers Day, historically celebrated by trade unionists who have campaigned for people's rights for hundreds of years.
  • They are angry about the Conservative Government's new legislation which seeks to put curbs on protests which cause disruption to the public.
  • Some police are in attendance.
