A MAN who died in a horrific crash on the A27 has been named locally.

Police and emergency services were called over a multiple car collision near the Ashcombe Roundabout at Lewes on Friday night.

The crash caused the closure of the dual carriageway for most of Saturday while an investigation was launched.

It was revealed that a 39-year-old man from Lewes and a 33-year-old man from Brighton were critically injured and were taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

Sadly, the men died from their injuries and their families have since been informed.

Now, Deano Bigger, understood to be his nickname, has been named locally as one of the two men who tragically lost their lives.

On Facebook, hundreds of his friends and family members expressed their shock.

George Marshall wrote: “None of this feels real yet. I miss you guys already. I wish I could have told you guys how much you meant to me and how much I appreciated you guys.

“Both of you were always there for me through thick and thin and I really don’t know what I’m going to do without you.

“I could keep going on but words couldn’t describe my love for you both.”

Sonia Tann wrote: “Sweetheart I miss you more than you can imagine, the kids have been so strong, just want their daddy to come home but they know you are with the angels now.

“Keep them safe and watch over us, until we meet again. I love you with all my heart xxx.”

Justine Lisa wrote: “In utter shock. My heart aches for the pain of this tragic loss for the whole family. RIP Deano you were one of a kind.”

Meanwhile Ryan Mercer wrote: “RIP, I can honestly say I never met any one as kind as you, you saved my life I'll never forget you.”

Police were called over a multiple car crash on the eastbound carriageway between Lewes and Falmer on Friday at 10.30pm.

Pictures from the scene showed the wreckage of vehicles, some of which appear to have overturned.

Sussex Police said: “The collision involved a black Audi S5, a silver Audi TT and a silver Ford Transit van.

“The occupants of the Audi S5, a 39-year-old man from Lewes and a 33-year-old man from Brighton, were taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, where they later died as a result of the injuries sustained. Next of kin have been informed.

“The driver of the Ford transit van suffered a serious injury but is in a stable condition in hospital.”

The force has appealed for any witnesses or footage, including in the surrounding area in the run up to the crash, and track down the drivers of a white Audi S3.

A 30-year-old man from Lewes was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, drug driving and possession of drugs.

Meanwhile a 29-year-old man from Lewes was also arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Both men were in custody for questioning over the bank holiday weekend.
