FIRE fighters and police have blocked off a busy shopping street amid fears of glass falling onto pedestrians.

Pictures taken on Western Road in Brighton show East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service attending an incident.

It follows reports of a "dangerous structure" with glass falling out of a building, causing a risk to pedestrians.

There is also police a presence on the scene, with officers helping to enforce a cordon on the street.

An eyewitness told the Argus: โ€œThere is a heavy police presence, the road has been blocked off for people, I have to take a different route to work.โ€

The East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene at 12.29pm.

The incident is reported to involve a broken window at the former Espirit shop.

The fire service confirmed that the road has been closed and that buses have been forced to take alternative routes.

Brighton and Hove Bus services have now returned to normal and will continue down their normal route through Western Road.
