I HAVE read with interest about the various views on the serious and unnecessary cutting back of one section the green wall at Dukes Mound and I am astonished by the blame game going on from the Green administration at Brighton and Hove City Council.

If they are blindly going ahead with cycle lanes in many areas of the city that may affect various historic plantations they should, of course, seek advice not only from council officers, so-called "expert" Green groups, but also experts in the management of all historical plantations in our once wonderful city.

I would have suggested that we should consult organisations such as the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) who would have given all the necessary advice required.

As a long-time qualified and experienced RHS horticultural judge I could have either recommended someone to consult or even offered my advice initially so that we need not have seen so much damage carried out to our plant heritage in that very popular tourist area of Brighton.
