WITH the help of her family, an Isle of Wight teen has completed the Red Squirrel trails in her wheelchair, raising money for charity.

Amelia Burns, 16, conquered the ten-mile route from Newport to Sandown, raising almost £5,000 for When You Wish Upon a Star.

The charity helps make dreams come true for children with life limiting conditions.

Her family pushed Amelia in her wheelchair some of the way, and she undertook a short walk once every half-hour or so.

"It was a great day, well other than the downpour halfway through for an hour, but thankfully the sun came out again for the finish," said father, Daniel Burns.

"I wish to thank everyone for their support and donations. We have been totally blown away by the love people have shown towards Amelia and their generosity.

"We know the good work the charity will do and how these funds will help make a wish come true for children with life limiting conditions."
