YES Mr Armstrong, I could not agree with you more. All these cycle lanes are being provided at great expense for the safety of these people but they are not being used.
I had the same experience as you driving along the seafront, all the cyclist were in the car lane. And they still don't think red lights and pedestrian crossings apply to them. Once they have got up speed, they don't want to stop.
Surely it is about time fines were imposed on cyclist who absolutely refuse to use the lanes. It does seem that the worst offenders are the cyclist on racing bikes, with all their Lycra kit on who think it is beneath them to use the lanes.
Instead of wasting money on cycle lanes, it would be better spent filling in the potholes in the roads.
Maybe a solution would be to make cyclist over the age of 16 pay a tax and have insurance like motorists.
Don't the councils realise that taking away the lanes for cars causes longer traffic jams, which causes more pollution from car exhausts?
Maybe once in a while, the people who decide to do these stupid things should put down their cups of tea, and go for a walk out of their ivory towers and see the chaos they cause.
Give us back our roads.
