Burgess Hill had its own lido in the Thirties

The picture, brought to life by colourisation, was taken in about 1938 and the lido sadly no longer exists, though the original walls can still be seen today.

Worthing, 1936

Still in the 1930s, another great Argus archive picture shows Worthing, looking south east across what is now South Street Square.

The old town hall is on the left and the corner of Warwick Street/South Street in the centre of image.

Tarrant Street, Arundel, 1938

We love the picture of a rainy Tarrant Street in Arundel, also taken in the Thirties, though it will look familiar to many people.

Note the Southdown bus – the number 66 to Chichester – and Belinda’s cafe on the right where you could get “hot luncheons and teas”. Belinda’s still exists today.

Tarrant Street is apparently the only street with that name in the country, meaning it is unique.
