THERE are long delays on a major road due to a fire service incident.

Crews from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service are at the scene of an incident on the A27 Westbound, between Holmbush Shoreham and the Shoreham flyover.

There are currently delays of seven minutes with this expected to increase.

A picture taken from the scene shows that one lane of the carriageway has been closed, while firefighters work on a car.

According to an AA traffic report, the average speed is 10mph.

A spokesman said: "One lane is closed and the is slow traffic due to fire department activity on A27 Shoreham By-Pass Westbound from A270 Upper Shoreham Road (Southwick / Holmbush turn off) to A283 Steyning Road (Steyning turn off).

"Photos on social media show lane one (of two) is closed.

"The average speed is ten mph."
