A MAN has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a major collision on the A259.

Both lanes of the carriageway were closed at Littlehampton between the Body Shop roundabout and the roundabout near the golf club.

One man has been rushed to hospital after a blue BMW crashed into the barrier around 5.08pm.

Pictures show emergency services at the scene, including fire and police crews.

A helicopter has also landed on the carriageway, which is used by thousands of drivers every day.

A spokesman from Sussex Police said: "A section of the A259 at Rustington remains closed in both directions after a blue BMW crashed into a barrier around 5.08pm.

"The driver has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

"Did you see what happened?"

Writing on Twitter PC Tom Van Der Wee said at the time: "We’re on the scene with South East Coast Ambulance Service, Kent Surrey Sussex Air Ambulance and West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service at a road traffic collision on the A259 at Littlehampton between the Bodyshop roundabout and Golf club roundabout.

"Both carriageways are closed and will be for the foreseeable future."
