FIREFIGHTERS put out flames which broke out in a home’s roof last night.

Crews from the West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (WSFR) were called to a loft fire in Medway Road, Crawley, at about 6.30pm.

Teams from Crawley, Horsham and Surrey used an Aerial Ladder Platform to extinguish the fire.

At 9.33pm, WSFR announced: “The loft fire in Medway Road, Crawley, is now out, but with damping down still taking place.

“There were no reported injuries.”

Pictures from the scene show firefighters using the ladder platform to reach the roof.

Parts of the home appear to have been damaged by smoke.

A spokesman for West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said: “Joint Fire Control received a number of 999 calls to reports of a fire involving the roof of a home on Medway Road in Gossops Green at 6.36pm yesterday.

“Two fire engines from Crawley Fire Station were mobilised to the scene followed by a crew and Aerial Ladder Platform from Horsham and two Surrey FRS fire engines.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were able to quickly extinguish the fire inside the building using hose reels and fog nails. The Aerial Ladder Platform was used to deploy PV Stop to isolate solar panels on the roof and externally fight the fire.

“The service’s Technical Rescue Unit also supported the incident by deploying the drone for thermal scanning of the roof.

“Officers from Sussex Police and the South East Coast Ambulance Service were also in attendance, and the road was closed while emergency services were on scene to allow them to work safely.

“The last crew booked away from the scene at 9.26pm, with officers returning this morning to carry out a reinspection to ensure there were no further signs of fire. The cause of fire remains under investigation.”
