STARS Zoe Ball and Eddie Izzard have spoken about the joy of a Sussex venue ahead of a show next week.

Eddie spoke with Zoe about the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill on her BBC breakfast show this morning.

She is due to perform Eddie Izzard 1988-2018 The Remix at the venue on Monday.

Speaking about the new show, Zoe asked: “Are you doing this at Bexhill at the Pavilion?

Eddie said: “Yes, it’s in Bexhill Pavilion, I just thought if things are opening up on Monday… I phoned them up and said ‘lets do a charity show for them on that day’.

“Tickets sold out in three hours, which annoyed some people but I’m sorry, there is less tickets available because of lockdown, or even the restrictions of lockdown, there’s still the two-metre rules going on inside buildings

“So that’s great to get a day at the Pavilion. It’s such a rock and roll venue now, everyone from Patti Smith to Elvis Costello has played there, loads of great comedians

‘When I was a kid, I worked in there.

“I worked on the self-service cafe in the 70s, but it was kind of a dying venue then and now it’s a great niche venue and Sparks are going to play there even though the tour has probably been moved.

“Sparks were playing all these places, great indie band, quirky indie band from way back, and they were playing all these great cities like Glasgow and London and then Bexhill on sea.”

Zoe responded: “Sparks put on such incredible shows, they really do. I feel slightly jealous of anyone who gets to go to that show on Monday.

“The best bits of you from ’88 to 2018… it’s going to be marvellous”

Doors to Eddie’s hour-and-a-half show open at 7.30pm.

The De La Warr Pavilion received an emergency funding package following a decision by Rother council leaders last year.

Rother District Council’s cabinet agreed to draw £350,000 from reserves to provide an urgent support package to help the arts centre survive the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

The pavilion expected to lose £1.1m of income in the 2020/21 financial year, mainly as a result of the lockdown preventing its live events programme from going ahead.

A spokesman for the De Le Warr Pavilion said: “On the first day venues in the UK are open to the public since early December, Eddie will perform a one-off show of highlights from her 30 year comedy career with all profit going to the DLWP.”
