A YOUNG jeweller has been crowned the winner of glamorous new reality television show.

Hugo Johnson from Haywards Heath was declared the winner of the BBC’s All That Glitters in a tense final.

The 24-year-old, who works at RTFJ jewellers in Wivelsfield, was tasked with making a set of pearl earrings and a bridal headpiece in a nail-biting challenge.

Hugo was up against fellow contestants Tamara and Dan to win over judges and jewellery designers Shaun Leane and Solange Azagury-Partridge.

But Hugo’s creations blew judges away and presenter and comedian Katherine Ryan announced that he was the winner.

In his acceptance speech, Hugo said: “Oh my God.

“So many people to thank. My family, my mother... she’s the reason I’m doing this.”

Designer Solange was among the first to congratulate him and said: “To see how you flourished throughout this competition has been really inspiring and it’s been a real privilege. Congratulations.”

Shaun, who is best known for creating sculptured jewellery for Alexander McQueen, said they chose Hugo as the winner after being impressed by this “vision and drive”.

The show has been described as “Bake Off for jewellery” by British Vogue, with contestants competing to be named “jeweller of the week.”

Jewellery that would usually be created over several days was required to be finished in three hours using drilling and saw blades.

Filming took place last year at Birmingham’s historic School of Jewellery.
