A WINDOW has been smashed and a number of items stolen in a burglary in a busy street in Hove.

Glass covers the pavement in Eaton Road where officers from Sussex police are manning a cordon, after receiving reports of a break-in just before 6am this morning. 

Officers are stationed outside the premises, which is located close to the Sussex Cricket ground.

A number of items were stolen during the burglary, which is said to have taken place overnight. 

Pictures taken from the scene show a window from the building smashed in.

Two police officers can be seen guarding the entrance.

A passerby who was walking their dog at the time told The Argus they heard a "blaring house alarm" and saw "glass shards across the ground".

She said: “I was just walking my dog and I heard a blaring house alarm.

"I walked further and I could see the noise was coming from one of the offices opposite the cricket ground.

"The window had been smashed and the scene was cordoned off.

"There were glass shards across the ground.

"One of the officers was stood outside and the other seemed to be speaking to someone inside the building."

A spokesman from Sussex Police said: "Just before 6am on Thursday, Sussex Police received a report of a break-in at a premises in Eaton Road, Hove.

"The windows at the premises had been smashed and a number of items are believed to have been stolen.

"The burglary is believed to have taken place overnight between 5pm on Wednesday (May 19) and 6am on Thursday (May 20).

"If anyone noticed any suspicious behaviour or has information to assist the police investigation please report this online or call 101 quoting serial 186 of 20/05."
