FULL size statues of British Army soldiers have been installed in Sussex to remember fallen troops from the First World War.

Housebuilding company Barratt Homes have partnered with the Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI) to build their familiar Tommy Club figures at show homes in Sussex.

The statues have been placed in gardens at Barratt Homes houses at Chalkers Rise in Peacehaven and Wychwood Park in Haywards Heath. They were revealed for the Victory in Europe Day celebrations on May 8.

The design of the statues is based on the silhouettes of "Tommy" which is typically a soldier in the British Army wearing a helmet and standing with a rifle with bayonet attached.

The figures will commemorate the lives of the soldiers who fought in the First World War.

They will also serve as a thank to the veterans of today.

Lynnette St-Quintin, sales and marketing director for Barratt Southern Counties, said: “We are proud to give our very own ‘Tommy’ figures a home at Chalkers Rise and Wychwood Park and are pleased to do our part to show our gratitude to Armed Forces veterans, many of whom live locally to our developments.

"We are always working to support active and former service personnel, and hope that Tommy will help our residents and the local community to take a moment to commemorate those who served in the world wars.”

Barratt Homes is the Tommy Club’s first corporate patron, supporting the charity with a donation of £100,000, and agreeing to purchase the figures for its developments across the South East.

The funds raised have been used to provide jobs, homes, and mental health support for veterans across the UK.
