A DRIVER has been arrested after a packed-out car was spotted with a pile of household items on the roof.

Photos shared by Sussex Roads Police show the vehicle in Brighton full to the brim with an assortment of items and furniture, with more attached to the roof with cable ties.

An appliance is seen on top of a wooden pallet, with blankets and bin bags hanging off the back of the car.

The driver was arrested for driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition and also for assaulting an officer.

Under UK law, a vehicle can be considered dangerous if its condition - including weight, position or distribution of its load or the way it is secured - "is such that the use of the motor vehicle or trailer involves a danger of injury to any person".

Sussex Roads Police said in a tweet: "Colleague stopped the driver of this vehicle earlier in Brighton.

"Transpired the driver thought travelling around with all this on his roof was okay.

"He’s been arrested for driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition and assaulting a police officer."
