POLICE are hunting for a woman in connection with a suspected acid attack that left a victim with potentially life-changing injuries.

CCTV has been released following the incident where a woman in her 20s had a “noxious substance” thrown over her while she stood in her doorway.

The suspected attacker fled Steine Gardens around 4.20pm yesterday, heading in the direction of the seafront.

Witnesses report seeing a black woman who was 5ft 6in, carrying a blue rucksack and wearing a face visor.

The victim remains in hospital and police are continuing to appeal for information.

Brighton and Hove Chief Inspector Nick Dias said: “Our officers continue to work tirelessly to identify the suspect in relation to this matter and ensure an arrest is made.

“We need your help in identifying the person in the footage, do you recognise them?

“We believe the suspect fled towards Princes Street, Brighton, and then towards the seafront.

"We are urging anyone who witnessed someone acting suspiciously in this area between the hours of 3pm and 5pm on Thursday (May 20) to make contact with us.

“Patrols continue to be stepped up in the city, please do come and talk to one of us if you have any information or concerns.”

The Argus understands that the woman was injured at a house where a group of medical students live.

The residue of the acid remains on the door of the Brighton property today.

One neighbour told The Argus they heard a "really bad scream" before seeing the young woman being led out of the property with a "blanket" over her head.

A second neighbour described how they saw an "acid attack kit" on the road outside the property after the attack.

He said: "I went out at about 9pm yesterday to get some bits from the shop and there was a plastic box with a printed note inside that said 'acid attack kit'.

"Less than 10 metres away is where we chill. There is definitely a bit of concern."

Anyone with information is asked to report in online or call 101 quoting Operation Overstone.
