DEMONSTRATORS took to the seafront to raise their concerns amid the conflict between Israel and Palestine.

About 50 people with Palestinian flags and banners initially gathered by the Peace Statue at Hove Lawns today, with more protesters taking the total to about 200.

It follows a protest of hundreds who marched at the Clock Tower in Brighton city centre on May 15, where there was anger at air strikes by Israel in the Gaza strip.

This week Israel and the Palestinian organisation Hamas agreed a ceasefire.

Israel and Hamas both claimed victory.

During 11 days of air strikes and rocket attacks, 248 Palestinians had lost their lives while 13 Israelis lost their lives.

In Hove, protesters held banners which read “Free Palestine” and “Justice for Palestine”.

Demonstrators are angry about Palestinians being forced out of their homes to make way for Israelis in East Jerusalem.

Brighton and Hove Palestine Solidarity Campaign called the demonstration at the Peace Statue today.

“Show the Palestinian people that we continue to stand with them against Israeli apartheid, occupation and ethnic cleansing,” they said.

Since fighting broke out on May 10, Israel has launched hundreds of airstrikes that it says have targeted Hamas’ infrastructure, including a vast tunnel network.

Hamas and other militant groups embedded in residential areas have fired more than 4,000 rockets at Israeli cities, with hundreds falling short and most of the rest intercepted.
