AN OWNER is desperately searching for her beloved moggy who jumped on board a truck and disappeared.

Domestic shorthair Thorin climbed onto the Sanctuary Maintenance vehicle at Holt Lodge, Canterbury Drive, Brighton, at about 10am on Wednesday.

Distraught onlookers near Ditchling Road spotted the cat on board the truck, pointing and shouting at the driver to get his attention.

But he remained unaware of poor Thorin as he drove on the 70mph A27.

However, eight-year-old Thorin was not on the truck when it pulled into the Lancing depot.

Heartbroken owner Chloe Hall said: "He got onto the truck and the guy has driven off with Thorin on the back.

"People saw him as early as Ditchling Road and were waving and pointing.

"They then travelled through Hollingbury and onto the A27.

"A couple of miles outside the Southwick Tunnel, the driver got a notification that one of the other drivers from Sanctuary had seen a ginger cat on the back.

"We know that by the time he ended up at the depot, he was not there.

"My poor baby could be anywhere between there and Ditchling Road."

Thorin has a black leather collar with diamanté stones on it.

His tags have Chloe's name, her phone number, and her postcode.

Ms Hall said: "He is usually very friendly and talkative but if he is scared he won’t enjoy being picked up.

"He also has a habit of going into people's houses in our neighbourhood so he might try that too.

" He is well known and loved by everyone in our courtyard. He is always safe inside at night, he is scared of cars and dogs but he loves people.

"Please help me find my precious boy."

So far, there have been no sightings.
