Brighton and Hove Police said it carries out extensive work to disrupt and prevent crime such as burglary as well as respond to concerns of the local community.

It asks communities to continue working with police to limit the opportunities for break-ins to commercial and residential premises.

As part of local initiatives and Operation Magpie, it is carrying out proactive work to target burglars and reduce instances of burglary by keeping people informed on how to protect their properties.

From April 2020 to March 2021, Brighton and Hove saw a reduction of over 35 per cent in residential burglaries and over 60 per cent in business burglaries from the previous year.

A total of 248 arrests were made for burglaries during this period, leading to 134 individuals being summonsed or charged.

Detective Superintendent Mike Ashcroft said: "Brighton and Hove Police is taking robust action on crime in the city.

"We have numerous operations and tactics in place to identify and prosecute offenders including our Tactical Enforcement Unit which is a dedicated response to targeting disrupting criminal activity.

“It is our daily business to target and prosecute offenders through patrols, proactive arrests and intelligence gathering.

"We take every crime reported to us seriously and thoroughly investigate all viable lines of enquiry.

"We urge anyone with information, or who witnesses suspicious behaviour, to report crime either online or by calling 101 and see the Force website for crime prevention advice."
