Sussex Police have now confirmed the closure was due to a multi-agency repsonse to a house fire in Shaftesbury Road.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene at 4.30pm after reports of a fire across the first and second floor of a residential property.
One person was rescued from the blaze and was treated by paramedics at the scene.
