A PERSON was rescued from a house fire this evening.

Four fire engines remain at the scene in Shaftesbury Road, Brighton, having been called to the fire in a residential property at 4.30pm.

Sussex Police and the South East Coast Ambulance Service are also in attendance.

The fire was on both the first and second floors in the building and East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said one person has been rescued and is now in the care of the ambulance service.

A passer-by said the person was pulled from the burning building and received CPR.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "One person has been rescued and is in the care of Secamb.

"We remain at the scene and have scaled down to four appliances and an aerial ladder platform.

"A search of premises in the area has been undertaken.

"Sussex Police and Secamb remain on the scene.

"Good progress is being made, and a multi-agency investigation is set to take place."
