HOMEOWNERS are being urged to close their windows and avoid the area as firefighters tackle a blaze in Bognor Regis.

Crews from across the county, including engines from Bognor Regis, Chichester and Littlehampton at the scene of a house fire in Aldwick Place.

The aerial ladder platform from Worthing has also been sent to the scene and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are using three hose reels and a covering jet to extinguish the fire.

People living close by are urged to keep their windows closed and drivers are also asked to avoid the area while the fire is brought under control.

A spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called today at 12.03pm to reports of a property on Aldwick Place in Bognor Regis on fire.

“Joint Fire Control mobilised fire engines from Bognor Regis, Chichester, Littlehampton and Selsey to the scene along with Hampshire and Isle of Wight FRS crews from Emsworth and Havant.

"The aerial ladder platform from Worthing has also been sent to the scene along with the Incident Command Unit from Haywards Heath.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are using three hose reels and a covering jet to extinguish the fire.

“We would urge residents living nearby to keep their doors and windows closed, and would encourage drivers to avoid the area for the time being to allow our crews to work safely.”
