BRIGHTON is set for a week of sunshine as temperatures soar to 23C.

After weeks of cold wind and rain battering the city, the weather is set to improve, with temperatures climbing well over 20C this bank holiday.

Hundreds of people are expected to flock to the seafront to enjoy the first spell of summer sunshine, as with conditions remaining warm across Sussex.

But those unable to make the most of the bank holiday will still get time in the sun, as temperatures will remain above 20C for the next seven days.

A spokesman from the Met Office said: "Warm, settled conditions are likely to persist across many areas during early next week.

"There is the potential for outbreaks of rain to arrive across parts of the northwest on Monday but it is then very uncertain how far south and east more unsettled conditions develop during next week.

"Whilst there is still likely to be a good deal of dry weather, showers, which could be heavy, become more likely across the south and west during the latter part of next week.

"Temperatures most likely remaining around or above average.

"By the end of the period, a northwest-southeast split in conditions becomes more probable: more unsettled and cooler in the northwest, and drier and warmer in the southeast."
