A MAN has been arrested after reports of a gunman on the streets near schools.
Police officers responded to a report of a man seen with a shot gun in the vicinity of Litten Gardens in Chichester at 2pm today.
A police helicopter was scrambled to help with the search and people were urged to avoid the area.
Officers worked with schools in the area to take "safety precautions" and a man has now been detained in relation to the incident.

Sussex Police said: "As the suspect was reported to be near two schools, we worked with them to take precautions to keep pupils and staff safe while we investigated the report.
"No threats were made and no one was harmed.
"We would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while we responded to this fast-moving incident."
