THE family of a teenage boy who died suddenly has urged the public to be mindful of what is posted on social media, including claims of bullying.

Bailey Worsfold, a 13-year-old student at Bexhill Academy, died at home on Monday.

Sussex Police are investigating his death on behalf of the coroner and said social media posts with references to bullying are causing additional distress to the teenager's family and friends.

A spokesman for the force said: "Whilst it is important that conversations around bullying take place, there has been nothing found at this stage to show that Bailey himself was a victim of bullying or that bullying played any role in this sad event."

In a statement, Bailey's family described him as "gorgeous, kind, loving and gentle" and said there were "no words" to describe their loss.

They said: "We would like to take the time to firstly say thank you for all the kind messages and support that have been written about Bailey.

"We understand why and how people may be speculating around the circumstances of his death, but we just wanted it to be known the police have found no evidence to support these rumours.

"This is the most horrific time for us all as a family and we are reading messages of support privately and ask that, with this in mind, people are mindful of what is posted during this distressing time.

"The school have been very supportive to us and are also grieving for the loss of our beautiful boy."

A crowdfunding campaign set up to support Bailey's family has raised almost £5,000 in three days.

Sussex Police said Bexhill Academy is supporting the students, staff and parents who have been affected by Bailey's death.

Writing on the school's website, executive principle Catherine Davies said: "It is with great sadness that I write to inform you of the death of one of our students who passed away at home.

"On behalf of our whole school family, we send our love and kindest thoughts to the family and close friends at this sad time.

"A memorial/condolence book for students/staff to write messages and memories will be opened this week.

"Please keep the family in your prayers or thoughts.
