I found the letter regarding Ed Mitchell from Roger Todd, quite heartless (Letters, December 24).

Because of bad management and drinks but also, let's face it, bad luck, Ed Mitchell found himself homeless.

Whether one is, or was, in the media, lost a little or a lot and is on the streets, it is extremely sad and we should have compassion for anyone in hardship.

Attitudes from doctors giving six minutes or less to their patients and facing their computers rather than their patients, the adverts for drinks and for material competition, all that has to change in this country, full of wealth, yet has an atmosphere of poverty and class as if it were a third world country in the West.

I am sending all my best wishes to Ed Mitchell for 2008 and for the dozens of years after.

And the same for all of Britain.
